JACOB &

MIRIAM

We’re high school sweethearts and best friends. We’ve been married for 12 years and have two beautiful children. But if that sounds like some fluffy, picture-perfect story where we pretend everything is butterflies and rainbows, think again.

Our marriage was nearly dismantled many times by addiction, deceit and enmeshment.

Our podcast is Brazen. No sanitized self-help. No dry lectures. Just raw, unfiltered conversations from a husband and wife who faced the wreckage of compulsive sexual behavior, chose the work and are building a new life from the ground up.

About us

You can listen to our full story in Episode 1 of the Brazen Recovery Podcast. If you want to hear more of our heart, thinking and raw insight, that episode breaks down the entire journey.

But if you just want the short version, here is the timeline of how we got here:

Two weeks in to marriage

Jacob’s addiction to pornography and unwanted sexual behavior was forced into the light. Miriam jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to fix everything on her own.

the first four years

We spent years trying to wish it all away. We relied on willpower, empty promises and trying harder.

Around year five

We stopped trying to fix it ourselves, began working with a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and joined our very first recovery groups. This was the moment our recovery journey began.

in our seventh year of marriage

As sexual behavior was suppressed, cross-addiction surfaced. Jacob hit a hard rock bottom with alcohol, exposing the deep need to address root pain rather than just swapping coping mechanisms.

for the next three years

On paper, we were checking every recovery box. Groups. Therapy. But in reality, nothing was really changing. Chronic relapses. Staggered disclosure. Enabling. Rescuing.

just before our tenth anniversary

Everything shifted when we both surrendered. Miriam threw up her hands and Jacob accepted his powerlessness to this addiction. He completed to a rigorous 90-in-90 recovery program, dove into community, worked through the 12-Steps and experienced radical, lasting transformation.

Experiencing the power of real community and authentic connection saved our marriage and reshaped our lives.

We built the Brazen Recovery Podcast because no one should have to navigate the terrifying isolation of addiction or betrayal alone. We aren't here to offer dry academic lectures or superficial, sanitized advice. We share our story—unfiltered and unvarnished—in hopes that you can learn from our mistakes, let our pain serve as your wake-up call and find the courage to step into real, lasting freedom.

RECOVERY IS CONNECTION.

Ready to start healing?

You can over-intellectualize recovery all day. You can listen to podcasts, read every book on the shelf and memorize every tool in the book—it is not going to change your life.

Psychoeducation is a great starting point, but information alone won't keep you sober.

Real transformation only happens when you stop managing your recovery in your head, drop self-reliance and execute a structured plan with relentless, external accountability.
